 LONG VERSION

“Whether you are citizens of America or citizens of the world, ask of us the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you. With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God’s work must truly be our own.”

– from John F. Kennedy’s Inaugural Address, January 20, 1961

If you are getting this newsletter, you’ve probably been to a Lost Horizon Night Market, or been told stories about them. You probably know that they are a really good time, a fun night out, and makes for a good story.

What you probably don’t know is I could care less if you had a good time.

Not that I don’t care about your experience. I am really glad you enjoyed it. But that has never been the focus of Lost Horizon Night Market. It’s always been about giving.

It’s about giving people a forum to try: to do something that has been an idea but never had the space to grow.

It’s about giving people an excuse to connect through a common goal: to pull together a bunch of people and come out at the end better people and tighter friends.

It’s about people sharing a secret: reaching out to those who you know live for this, or need a new way to look at life.

It’s about sharing a common experience: the best truck is always the people milling around on the sidewalk, talking about all the things.

So, now, we’re letting you in on the giving. Because this summer we are being very ambitious with our giving and, frankly, we need support from our community.

We’re open to all sorts of help, especially those without cash. Telling people about us, telling us about great people, giving us time, space and effort all count. (And you can find out more here. )

But, what we also need is $1. Or more if you have it.

If you can give us $1 on our Kickstarter, it shows that people care about this. It helps other people see that they are part of something bigger. If you can give us more, great. I mean REALLY GREAT! And we’ll do some stuff for you in return. FUN STUFF! Like TUBAGRAMS! PALM READINGS! ### CUTE CATS AND DOGS! ###

Why do we need your money? Well, because we want to connect all of the makers we can meet. By doing this project, we are going to get emissaries to meet up with folks outside of the typical people. And we are going to talk. Talk about all the things. And, we are going to trade: ideas, locations, references, hook-ups, tools and tricks. And then we go to the next town and do the same. And then, we come back, and share these gifts with you. And maybe then all those people come and visit too. And  -poof-  your world got a whole lot weirder in the way you usually only wish happened to you, but it actually is happening. A sort of practical magic.

So go ahead. Give us a buck. Give us a few. And consider it an advance on living in a richer world.

All the best,

Mark Krawczuk
